john “jomo” morrison

I’m an experienced and award-winning filmmaker working in reality tv. I’ve had a lifelong passion for visual storytelling, and take pride in being known as someone with good “story sense.” I’ve now story edited seven episodes of the hit Discovery Channel docu-reality series Highway Thru Hell and am looking forward to expanding into different shows.

I’ve also edited broadcast and online commercials at Barbershop Films and assistant edited at Convergent Entertainment. I’ve co-written the feature After Film School and written an unproduced screenplay, Arcade Death Zone, that made it to the top ten as voted by the public in the CineCoup contest.

I studied at Emily Carr, BCIT and Capilano University, and have over a decade of experience in post-production, with a background in art and graphic design.

For the past 3 seasons I’ve been writing episodes (Story Editor) for Discovery Channel’s most-watched original Canadian series, Highway Thru Hell. (I’ve written seven episodes so far!) Now in its 12th season, this docu-reality show follows the “highway heroes” of heavy rescue and recovery towing companies operating along the highways of British Columbia, battling massive mudslides, whiteout snowstorms, torrential rain, and dangerous rockslides.

Previously I’d been on the Story Team since Season 7, liaising with the field crew, helping track and organize stories into episodes and supporting the writers and editors of each episode.

My demo reel for short films I’ve made. My short film Sleepwalk made its world premiere at the New York City Horror Film Festival, where it won the Audience Choice Award for Best Short Film. Next it screened at the Everybody Dies Horror Film Festival in Los Angeles, the Atlanta Horror Film Festival, and many others. I’ve written and story-edited several short films which have enjoyed major success on the festival circuit, and cowrote the feature film After Film School.
